Walk-to-School

Wow! We had a fabulous turn up for our first 1/2 Walk-to-School Friday. Congrats to the children and families who joined us for our walk. See you again next Friday at 8:30!

It is that time of year again, when we discover our budding dancers, singers, musicians, comedians, gymnasts and all-round born performers. Yes, it's Lara's Got Talent time!

Interested children are asked to prepare acts, props, music, costumes, etc, and put together an act to present to their peers. Two acts will make it through to the Grand Final. Participation is completely voluntary and children create their acts in their own time - either during recess breaks or at home.

The first round of finals is next Thursday, October 19th. Good luck, everyone!

Lexia at home

Lexia Core 5 is a fantastic new computer-based literacy program that the school has been trialling. Children are really working hard and enjoying their progress and achievements.

By all means, children are encouraged to complete Lexia work at home. Please contact your child's teacher if they don't have a copy of their Username and Password. You will also need a school email address for the first time you log on. This address is: lara.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

Feel free to have a look at what children are doing, but please refrain from telling them answers or even helping them. The program is designed for children to complete independently. Teachers are alerted when children have difficulties with an aspect of the program and can give follow-up work in the classroom. Thanks for your cooperation with this.

Springtime Walk

October is Walk to School month. Children are encouraged to walk, ride or scooter to school.

Teachers will be at the Lara Library every Friday in October to walk to school with any children who would like to join us. We will be leaving at 8:30. Families welcome. The more, the merrier!

We hope to see you there, although of course we understand if you can't make it. :)

New Play Spaces

BOOK WEEK

To celebrate Book Week this year we had some fabulous characters visit Lara PS for the day. We really appreciate all the effort that families went to in creating a range of funny, imaginative, fancy, crazy and scary characters.

We enjoyed seeing each other's costumes at our Book Week parade. We saw some very fine acting from our 1/2 teachers who proved that the Big Bad Wolf (AKA Mr Beck) is not really as big and bad as we first thought.

We participated in the whole school Big Read. Just before lunch, all grades met with their buddy grade, then big buddies and little buddies read to each other. What a wonderful way to enjoy reading.

We finished our busy day with a special assembly where certificates were presented to our highest library borrowers. We read a Book Week finalist picture storybook, 'Chip'. We also heard about each grade level's favourite book.

What a day! And what a way to celebrate BOOKS, WONDERFUL BOOKS!
